About Us

We started in 1995 as a home-based photofinishing business called Phoenix Photo, owned and operated by Angela Powell. Rolls of film placed in the little drop box at the front of Angela’s house would be developed and printed on professional equipment that literally filled her living room and the small studio in her garden.

Two fellows move the photofinishing machine down the steps of Angela's island cottage.

Two years later, as business became more brisk, Angela decided she needed to reclaim her living room from the photo lab it had become! She relocated to a tiny retail outlet in Village Square. Customer support was wonderful and people continued to ask for more items than just the frames and photo accessories that were stocked. Over time products expanded to include toys and art supplies, as well as custom framing. Everyone was having so much fun…and even more customer requests led Angela to increase her stock significantly. Before she knew it, the walls were bursting and yet another move was needed!

In 2000, Angela relocated to the current location at 209 Village Square, three times the size of the last shop. Much more fun was now being had by all as yet more toys were stocked, then children’s books, specialty theme party supplies, helium balloons, cards and wrap, fitness gear and most recently, digital photofinishing and adult books. And now, in 2004, Phoenix Photo has become Phoenix on Bowen, because they are so much more than just photos!
